In college, I blew first-year physics. I, too, scraped by in high school. However, I had a solid science education (and pretty decent exam scores in physics along the way). How did I get it backwards? It necessitated a significant shift in my approach to physics.

1. Try to keep up, and if you fall behind, make recovery a priority.
Review the relevant textbook chapters ahead of time, taking notes on essential concepts, so that your brain is prepared to learn in class and you can truly pay attention and ask questions;
Examine all of the problem sets in the textbook to confirm that you grasp the concepts. Also, continuously practise them (and any others you can find) or you’ll forget;
For more information, consult your lecturer, teacher, tutor, or smart nerd friend. But don’t squander your time. If knowledge gaps aren’t addressed early on, the foundation (or lack thereof) will be shaky.

2. Rehearse The Fundamental Concepts.
After you’ve finished reading, go through the key concepts, definitions, and formulas you’ve encountered to make sure you remember them. It will be easier for you to follow along in class if you have these basic ideas memorised (or at least comprehended).

3. Refresh Your Math Skills
Physics problems can also be caused by rusty or non-existent math ability, as in my case. Unfortunately, the more you understand about physics, the more mathematical operations you’ll encounter that you thought you’d forgotten about. (Algebra, trigonometry, and calculus, to be exact.)
You can’t expect your teacher or professor to fill in the blanks during lectures or class because they’ll assume you already know all the arithmetic required to comprehend the content. Don’t give up if you’re having problems with arithmetic in physics class. You can’t ignore math since it’s the language of science.
Do not be afraid to seek assistance from a mathematician so that you can return to physics with complete confidence.
